The female body is a magical thing. From bringing a child into the world to menopause and beyond, the female genitals go through changes that can lead to diminished vaginal health and function. Luckily, the board-certified experts at 8 West Cosmetic can assist in restoring function and health to the vaginal canal, as well as lessen discomfort and self-consciousness about asymmetrical labia. There are two procedures offered at 8 West Cosmetic Surgery that all women should consider: Labiaplasty and Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, or LVR.
What is Labiaplasty and Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Labiaplasty, which is also known as labia reduction and labia menorah reduction, is a procedure that alters the labia minora (the inner labia) and the labia majora (the outer labia). The labia are measured, marked, and carefully trimmed, then closed with sutures. Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, or LVR, is a three-to-four-minute in-office procedure that resurfaces the layers of the vagina wall, replacing it with brand new healthy tissue, and heats the layers of the tissue where collagen exists. LVR involves a device being inserted into the vagina, to expand and flatten vaginal tissue with hybrid laser technology, and the device remains stationary throughout the procedure. Two lasers are used in LVR, the first resurfaces the layers of the vaginal wall, and the second laser heats the layers of vaginal tissues.
Is there Discomfort?
A labiaplasty is a discreet surgery with minimal post-operation pain. By following the proper post-operative recovery instructions given to them by their surgeon, many labiaplasty patients can resume non-strenuous activities three to four days post-surgery. In LVR, the discomfort during the procedure is minimal, because the laser spins within the ergonomic device inserted into the vagina. Post-procedure, LVR patients are able to return to their normal daily routine with little to no discharge immediately. However, LVR patients are instructed to refrain from sexual intercourse or activity for at least 48 hours post-procedure. Most LVR patients receive optimal results, making them feel younger and self-confident in just three in-office LVR procedures.
Are there Complications?
Complications in a labiaplasty are uncommon. Occasional complications include bleeding, labial asymmetry, infection, poor healing of the incision site, under-correction, and overcorrection of the labia. The surgeon will outline risks associated with labiaplasty prior to surgery. With LVR, as long as patients refrain from sexual intercourse and sexual activity for at least 48 hours post-procedure, there are no complications.
