The Approach to Straightening the Twisted Nose
The first thing that Dr. Buonassisi will always say in regards to the desire to fix a crooked nose is that the look of the twist from the outside can certainly be improved by rhinoplasty, but it cannot be made perfectly straight. Repair of a twisted nose normally starts deep in the nose with a crooked septum, which is required to be corrected. The ground-up approach to this consists of the following steps:
- The nasal septum will have to be separated from the nasal tip and upper lateral cartilages of the nose.
- The septum is then positioned correctly and secured.
- Incisions will likely have to be made in the cartilage, which will then be reconstituted to correct existing curvature that has resulted from the crooked septum, as its effects move up the nasal structure.
- The nose is stitched back closed.
With this ground-up approach, the repair of the twisted nose requires that an open rhinoplasty method be executed so that the intricate surgery can be successfully carried out. Combined with the skill of an experienced facial plastic surgeon, straightening a crooked nose in this way will yield highly successful results.
