About Open Rhinoplasty
Video transcript: The open approach is almost an extension of the closed approach, so very similar incisions are placed inside the nostrils but there's also an incision that's placed across the skin of the columella. What that does is it allow for the skin over the nasal tip to be elevated, and it allows me to actually see the nasal tip cartilages and make significant changes to them.
Good candidates for an open approach are patients that not only need something changed about their bridge but also want significant modification of their tip shape, or tip position; so it's very helpful in those situations. Often, the closed approach is used when making changes to the bridge only, but an open approach is used when making changes to the bridge and the nasal tip.
