Keys to Success with Rhinoplasty
Board Certified rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Buonassisi at Vancouver's 8 West Clinic has done thousands of surgeries in his two decades of practice. It's important to understand however, that rhinoplasty surgery cannot provide you with a perfect nose, and the greatest surgeons are both aware of and forthright about this. Your surgeon works off of what your nose offers, and there are some common pre-existing or desired characteristics of the nose that affect the outcomes of a rhinoplasty surgery for different kinds of patients. In the above video, Dr. Buonassisi outlines these nasal features and how they might limit possible results to successful rhinoplasty.

The Most Common Limitations to Rhinoplasty Success
Setting the stage for a successful rhinoplasty starts at the initial consultation. It's really important to make sure that patients understand what to expect from surgery. We often use computer imaging to try and simulate what the nose will look like, but I think it's very important to explain to people what limits I have as a surgeon to ensure understanding of proper expectations. The following are some examples of possibly limiting factors to changing nasal features:
- Having thick skin
- Having thin skin
- Having a twisted or crooked nose
- Desiring full augmentation of the nose
- Desiring a dramatic improvement in a revision surgery
What Else Goes into a Successful Rhinoplasty?
With this fully understood and surgery candidacy approved at the consultation, it's very important then that patients adhere to the detailed pre and post operative instructions. They'll come to the office for their post operative care, and they're looked after diligently for several months after the procedure; just to make sure they get the best possible results. All in all, at the end of the equation to rhinoplasty success, it is important to make sure patients know what they are getting into and that they are making the right decision before going into a surgery that cannot get them the results they may desire.
