Key Considerations for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Rhinoplasty
In an earlier article we discussed that experience performing ethnic rhinoplasty is important. A patient's ethnic background helps to determine their nasal features, such as skin thickness, skin quality and cartilage stiffness. To achieve natural looking results, it is important to select techniques that account for these features.
One of the key features of the Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern nose is the prominence of the nasal bridge. Reduction of a bony ''hump'' on the bridge of the nose is the most commonly requested cosmetic nasal procedure. What many patients don't realize, however, is that often a drooping tip further accentuates the appearance of the hump and can make the nose look excessively long. In my practice, consultations include a thorough rhinoplasty assessment to determine the contributions from a prominent hump and a drooping tip to the overall aesthetics of the nose. With computer imaging I can make changes to these features so that patients can envision the reshaping and rebalancing of the nose before they proceed with surgery.
